it has long been established that Labour has larded its constituencies with NHS monies while depriving those of the opposition. why has nobody asked how Labour intends to play politics with the results of its Orwellian snooping?

Agreed. The task of creating such a database of personal information would incur more costs to the taxpayer, and I don't see how such a database would help to prevent crime. As far as you point concerning freedom goes, I find the British public to be a rather passive lot, I find public protests few and far between. Where is that fighting spirit?
