I am writing to you in my capacity as Director of Public Affairs of the Adam Smith Institute, a leading free market think tank, to congratulate you on abolishing the Payment Systems Regulator. Since its inception in 2015, the PSR has created friction for Britain’s innovative payment services sector, standing in the way of market forces that have sought to bring greater convenience and value for money to consumers.
We are glad to see that the Chancellor’s calls to prioritise growth over red-tape are being heeded. In light of this positive news, we would like to take the opportunity to suggest other regulators, QUANGOSs, and ALBs that you should consider abolishing, streamlining, merging, or reforming for similar reasons.
