Lands of the Free Trade: Prospects for a UK-US trade deal

Click here to register for this ASI webinar

With trade negotiations now well underway between the United States and the United Kingdom, we take a look at the state of play. Politicians, pundits, political campaigns and lobby groups are lining up to take up their favourite hobby horses while noises-off talk of scuppering the deals due to domestic concerns and geopolitics.

How much faith should we put in the promises being offered? How serious are the threats being made in election years? Are the timeframes people are offering realistic? Will the issues negotiators and pundits want to make big be real barriers to signing a comprehensive free trade agreement?

To answer all of these our Deputy Director Matt Kilcoyne will be joined by Marc Busch, the Karl F. Landegger Professor of International Business Diplomacy at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He is an expert on international trade policy and law.

Professor Busch is a nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, a non-partisan think tank. He also hosts the podcast TradeCraft, which examines current topics in international trade law and policy. He previously served for two terms as a “cleared advisor” on technical trade barriers to the U.S. Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative.

Join us Tuesday 6th October, at 6pm UK time for a discussion that should clear up some confusions, misconceptions, and misleading claims on the topic of trade.
