Levelling Up or Levelling Off?

Click here to register for this Adam Smith Institute webinar

Last week was the Prime Minister’s ‘build build build’ speech. This week a July ‘fiscal event' is expected from the Chancellor. These are raising questions about how the economy recovers from Covid-19. A consistent theme on rebuilding from the Government is the so-called ‘levelling up’ agenda, which will be the topic of our webinar.

What is 'levelling up'? What policies could help 'levelling up'? Will this agenda help the UK recover from Covid-19 or could it become a hindrance to overall economic growth? What is its political importance to the Conservative Party?

We have assembled a panel of experts on regional development, economic policy, politics, and grassroots campaigning, to investigate every aspect of the Government’s levelling up agenda.

Panellists:

Morgan Schondelmeier is the Head of External Affairs at the Adam Smith Institute (host).

Professor Paul Cheshire is the Emeritus Professor of Economic Geography at the London School of Economics. He has written and advised extensively on planning reform and worked with various international organisations such as the World Bank, OECD and UN.

Julian Jessop is an Economics Fellow at the Institute of Economic Affairs, where he was previously Chief Economist. He has extensive public and private sector experience as a professional economist. He is also a regular media commentator and expert witness.

Luke Springthorpe is founder and Director of Conservative Progress, a grassroots community of Conservative activists. He is a regular commentator and has a background in financial services and wealth management.
