The Pledge Parade: A Next Generation Centre Review of the 2024 Manifestos

Ahead of the General Election on the 4th July, this handy Next Generation manifesto guide summaries the key pledges from the major parties on the areas that matter most to young people and explore how they might improve the prospects of the next generation.

For the purposes of this review, we’ll be focusing on key areas of concern for younger voters, including housing, higher education, childcare, and the tax burden. Of course, there are plenty of areas - such as healthcare, immigration, and plans for economic growth - which are not explored here, but which will nevertheless impact the lives of working-age people. However, in light of the considerable volume of promises made by each of the parties, we’ve focused on condensing the manifestos down to the bread-and-butter basics.

For the sake of fairness, we’ve focused on major national parties consistently polling at more than 5 per cent, these being Labour; Conservatives; Reform UK; the Liberal Democrats; the Green Party
