What's Next? How to restore freedom and prosperity

Questions abound about the cost of this crisis. We need to start thinking now about how the Western World's capitalist economies will respond, and whether tax cuts or tax rises are going to be the response politicians reach for in the months and years ahead.

Beyond the price-tag cost is the loss of our liberties too. Our day to day activities have been severely impacted to stop the spread of this virus and we need to start thinking about how we begin to get back those freedoms — the cornerstone of our prosperity and happiness.
Really we need to start asking "What next?": is this going to change our society, how will we open up again, how will we ensure emergency controls don't become the new normal?

Panellists:

Dr Madsen Pirie is the President of the Adam Smith Institute, which he co-found in 1977. Madsen was part of the influential team which pioneered privatization and the extension of market choices and incentives.

John O'Connell is the Chief Executive of the Taxpayers' Alliance, where he has worked since 2009, and the Chairman and President of the World Taxpayers Associations.

Peter Lilley is a member of the House of Lords, former Member of Parliament (1983-2017), and was a cabinet minister in the Thatcher and Major governments.
